Commercial Fishing Boats using hydrogen burn less fuel - produce less pollution
We all love seafood and a huge fleet of commercial fishing boats provide most of it for us. But like every business, fishermen have operating costs too. The larger the boat, the greater the expense.
Even if the boat is a small troller, the expenses mount up. For example, the vessel itself is a major investment. Then there's nets, pots, all kinds of fishing gear. And the equipment required, maintenance is a major issue. There's labor, licenses, provisions, bait, moorage costs, and the big one - marine engine fuel, the list goes on and on; practically ad nauseam. Every season, vessel owners must consider filling massive marine fuel tanks with diesel and keeping them filled. The cost is tremendous. Finding ways to reduce these costs by any means is sought after. When a new technology is discovered, it’s enthusiastically welcomed. But one method is stands out that claim great fuel savings, NOx, HC’s, PM’s emissions reduction, plus extended engine life – if it’s true. If it sounds too good to be true, well it isn’t. The technology that answers all the above and more, by promoting an increase in power without relinquishing precious fuel is hydrogen. A hydrogen boast is an efficient way to accomplish this. Commercial fishing boats utilizing hydrogen power will accomplish all of these and more. How? with hydrogen fuel cells. Several companies manufacture quality systems large enough for sufficient hydrogen injection to handle large
Depending on the number of diesel engines used; gen-sets for electrical power generation, hydraulic pump power, or the main drive engines and any other auxiliary diesel power on board. Each one requires fuel and each one will benefit from this great alternate energy source. While engine wear-n-tear isn't eliminated, it is dramatically reduced. NOx, CO's and PM emissions outperform federal requirements. And the fuel savings are real. As for the boost fuel; it comes from water in hydrogen fuel cells, did you hear that - ordinary water. Science has discovered a way to produce more energy than the energy it takes to produce it. That’s the trick.
So what’s next? burning ordinary sea water, it’s currently being done - imagine that. Injection hydrogen into the combustion chamber, causes the resident (diesel) fuel burn more efficiently. To understand why hydrogen boosts hydrocarbon fuels, see Hydrogen Energy
